Jaroslav Soumar inspires with an extraordinary way of seeing the world

A visual artist from Police nad Metují, Art School teacher, painter, writer, illustrator…

The current exhibition of Soumar’s drawings and paintings in the Green House demonstrates the breadth of his talents. Alongside works created simply for joy, the exhibition also presents enlarged illustrations from a planned primer, images of rocks, landscapes… pieces that could easily hang in a Prague gallery.

Jaroslav Soumar discovered an engaging method during his work on how to teach children to draw

"Children repeated the same drawing several times not to copy it, but to learn how to draw movement — for example, a horse.

He began working with animated sequences: four times the same horse in different phases of motion. When children link these drawings in a simple computer program into fluid animation, they become enthusiastic about the process and the result."
